L.A. tops Toronto for fifth in a row

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Edson Buddle scored in the 78th minute to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday night.

The Galaxy (9-13-6) used their fifth consecutive victory to move within four points of Chicago and Kansas City, which are tied for the final spot in the eight-team MLS playoffs.

FC's Edu called up to U.S. team

TORONTO - U.S. soccer coach Bob Bradley has called up Toronto FC rookie midfielder Maurice Edu for a European training camp in advance of an Oct. 17 friendly in Switzerland.

''It's something that I've dreamed of all my life, and I'm going to try and make the most of the chance,'' Adu said in a statement Tuesday.

Edu will miss Toronto FC's game in Los Angeles against the Galaxy on Saturday because of his national team duty. He will back for Toronto's final regular season home game against the New England Revolution on Oct 20.

Edu is one of just three MLS players on the U.S. roster. The other 18 play in Europe.

The University of Maryland product, the first overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, has four goals this season.

Toronto defender Marvell Wynne was a member of the U.S. Copa America squad earlier this year.

Kirovski leads Rapids over Toronto FC

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) - Jovan Kirovski scored on a penalty kick in the 44th minute as the Colorado Rapids snapped a five-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC on Sunday night.

The win kept the Rapids' playoff hopes alive.

Colorado (8-12-8) was short-handed after Mehdi Ballouchy was ejected in the 36th minute for fouling Carl Robinson for his second foul of the match. Pablo Mastroeni was ejected in the 88th minute after receiving his second caution.

But it didn't matter against Toronto FC (6-16-6), last place in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference.

The expansion club's loss came on the heels of a 2-1 home win over Red Bull New York on Oct. 4 that snapped a 13-game winless streak.

Kenny Stamatopoulos made four saves for Toronto FC, while Bouna Coundoul stopped three shots for Colorado.

TFC look to keep momentum vs. Colorado

Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - Toronto FC is coming off its first win in 13 Major League Soccer matches Thursday against New York. Colorado is coming off consecutive 1-0 road losses and has fallen to 10th in the league standings.

But when the two squads meet Sunday at Dicks Sporting Goods Park, the fact that the expansion franchise played four nights earlier coupled with the fact that the Rapids are four points out of the last playoff spot with just three games remaining means that the match is a must-win for the home side.

We need to win...Collapse )

Toronto's winless streak ends

TORONTO - Toronto FC may have put an end to its woeful 12-game winless streak.

But coming near the tail-end of what's turned into a trying season for the new MLS squad, head coach Mo Johnston wasn't doing much celebrating Thursday.

Toronto midfielder Maurice Edu scored and the Red Bulls added an own-goal as TFC defeated New York 2-1.

They're ecstatic, they're happy, they're high-fiving each other...Collapse )

Toronto FC vs FC Dallas - June 17, 2007 Highlights

A few FC Dallas supporters made the trip, and were treated to some beer that at least one couldn't handle.

In other news, the bus trip to Chicago has sold out! Thank god, I was stressing on it after putting myself down for 5 grand for the bus. Now we're going to invade Chicago with 2 coaches and over 150 people (a bunch are driving / flying down).

I also scored a single ticket to the opening Canada vs. Chile game of the U-20 world cup on July 1st. Great seat too, Section 113, row 3 (U-Sector represent!).

Tonight the mighty TFC take their game on the road and are up for a revenge re-match against the North East Revolution who initiated the team into the league back in April with a 4-0 loss. The Hideout is the place to be tonight if you want to watch the match.

I also signed up for the U-Sector winter indoor soccer league, where skill is actually frowned upon" and "ya have to have a pub. What do you think we would run around for an hour for the good of our health (have ya even seen me?), no, it's to earn yerself some time in the pub." Should be fun.
